10 Things You Can Do With Photoshop CS2 That You Couldn’t Do Before Now
March 10th, 2010Is Photoshop CS2 worth the upgrade? You bet it is! Here are just 10 things you can do with this fantastic new version of Photoshop that were impossible (or difficult) to do with previous versions:
1. Manipulate objects in the Adobe Bridge
This new generation of file browser enables you to look at photographs and artwork in detail before you open the file, process multiple Camera Raw images, flip through pages in PDF documents, size, rate and organise your work in a convenient and highly user-friendly way. Goes way beyond the capabilities of the File Browser introduced in Photoshop 7.
2. Get rid of imperfections with the Spot Healing Bush
The Spot Healing brush enables you to get rid of slight imperfections – like dust or scratches at the click of a mouse. Unlike the Healing Brush or Patch tools, you don’t have to find a source point first.
3. Remove “red-eye” in an instant.
With older versions of Photoshop, removing red-eye and pet-eye was possible, but it wasn’t easy. Now, one click of the Red Eye removal tool can remove pet-eye and red-eye from your photographs, in less time than it takes your subject to say “cheese!”.
4. Perform non-destructive scaling with Smart Objects.
You know how it is: You try to make an imported object larger, and it goes all blurry and pixelated. With Smart Objects, that’s a thing of the past, because you can scale, warp and rotate vector graphics in a non-destructive way.
5. Do neat things in perspective with the new Vanishing Point feature.
With Vanishing point you can cut and paste in perspective. Now you’re able to turn a photograph of a wall into a “virtual art gallery” with all the pictures correctly skewed, or move a window from one side of a building to another and, because the perspective is correct, have it look like it’s always been there. You can also draw lines that taper off into the distance – wide nearest the camera, narrow further away – just like in “real life”.
6. Get more accurate printing.
With Photoshop CS2, the people at Adobe have improved the printing workflow. Now it’s even easier to configure your inkjet printer to get more accurate colour printing.
7. Customise menus and workspaces.
Photoshop CS2 lets you highlight commonly used menu items, and set up custom menus and workspaces. Now all the power of Photoshop is (literally) at your command, and can be tailored to your requirements.
8. See what each font looks like before you use it.
Finally! Photoshop gets a WYSIWYG font drop-down menu. Now you don’t have to keep text highlighted while you cycle through all the fonts until you get to the right one!
9. Manipulate images with Image Warp.
Image Warp allows you to bend, peel, and stretch images the same way as type. Now you can put an image on a mug or soda can with ease.
10. See what video graphics will look like, while you’re doing them.
If you’re a video professional like me, you’ll know how frustrating it can be: You make a graphic that looks fantastic on a flat computer monitor, but when you import the .psd file into your Avid timeline, and look at it on the TV screen, it’s not quite what you had in mind. You then have to go back into Photoshop and make your artwork look “wrong”, so it will look right on a video monitor. With Photoshop CS2 you can preview your images on a video monitor directly from the software, and see exactly how they’re going to look in your video, even if your editing software is on a different computer. Neat eh?

Edit Digital Photos – Get This Great Guide On Digital Photography
March 9th, 2010Quite often, many basic editing tasks can be done in the camera itself after the picture is taken including some simple cropping, removing red eye from flash photos, and rotation from landscape to portrait and vice versa. For many people, this is about all that they require anyway before printing out their snapshots, and this keeps things very easy and simple. But to start to realize the potential that digital photography puts in the hands of the average person, a photo editing software program will be needed where you upload your photos from the camera to your computer and then open them in the program. You can then begin to perform all kinds of editing tasks including more advanced cropping, change the file size or format, adjust color saturation, contrast and brightness, and apply special effects.
You can learn to make amazing enhancements to any photograph using the tools and functions available in Photoshop. The following are just a few of the improvements you can make to people pictures. Whiten stained teeth, Remove unsightly scars, Smooth age wrinkles, Clear up acne, Remove blemishes, Double chin removal, Fill in bald spots by adding hair, Open closed eyes, Remove tattoos, Hide body piercings, and even Change eye color.
Remember your audience. If your photos are destined for Web pages, don’t worry about minor flaws; get the dark-and-light balance right and make sure your pictures are mostly close-ups. If your photos are going to be printed at 8-inches by 10-inches or larger, take the time to smooth out the flaws. Make brutal crops, too. No one will know later that you took out the telephone pole alongside Billy’s head. Distractions are just as annoying in photographs as they are in real life.
Sharpening is one of the most impressive transformations you can apply to an image since it seems to bring out image detail that was not there before. What it actually does, however, is to emphasize edges in the image and make them easier for the eye to pick out – while the visual effect is to make the image seem sharper, no new details are actually created. The first step in sharpening an image is to blur it slightly. Next, the original image and the blurred version are compared one pixel at a time. If a pixel is brighter than the blurred version it is lightened further; if a pixel is darker than the blurred version, it is darkened. The result is to increase the contrast between each pixel and its neighbors. The nature of the sharpening is influenced by the blurring radius used and the extent to which the differences between each pixel and its neighbor are exaggerated.
In one wedding photograph, the groom stood still at the bottom of stone steps to an historic dwelling, his hand extended towards his bride, who slowly moved down the steps toward her groom. My six deliberate ‘clicks’ of the shutter created an airy, surreal picture of the wedding couple. Depending on the speed of the moving subjects, the shutter can be held down in rapid fire mode or each exposure can be meticulously choreographed: 1) each subject deliberately positioned in the frame, 2) one ‘click’ of the shutter, and 3) repeat steps 1 and 2 to the total number of multiple exposures you set in your camera.
While you can easily enough create the effect of black and white what about things like drop shadows, watermarks, blurring the background and even soft focus your pictures. Photoshop is the perfect tool to be able to do this. Drop Shadows: This is an excellent effect to use on text, logos, and graphic art. Watermark: It is easy with Photoshop to create a custom watermark on your photos. Soft Focus: Soft focus is a popular effect used by professional photographers for years to enhance portraiture. Blur the Background: Pictures of people and other objects will really stand out when the background is blurry. Photoshop allows you to only blur certain areas of the image while leaving other areas in perfect focus. Frame: There are unlimited ways you can put frames around your photos in Photoshop.
Starting up a new photography business isn’t just fun and games. You’re going to need to do is advertise. You’ll have to print out business cards, take out ads in magazines and newspapers and more or less get the word out that you exist. If you’re hoping to break into the field taking photos for a magazine like Playboy, then you’re going to have to first get some private work photographing models in order to submit these photos to the magazine itself. Before you do that though, you’re going to have to write to the magazine for permission to send photos. Most publications do not accept unsolicited material.
5 Easy and Effective Steps to Reduce Belly Fat
March 8th, 2010A excess of fat in the midsection has been linked to a number of debilitating illnesses and conditions such as diabetes, certain cancers, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease. Many people find it increasingly difficult to lose weight as they age, and most men tend to gain weight around the midsection first. However, by following the five steps outlined below, it’s possible to reduce belly fat, lose weight, decrease the risk of certain diseases, and increase your overall quality of life.
1. Eat healthier meals
Research suggests that a diet rich with omega-3 fats can reduce the production of adrenaline, which is a stress hormone that contributes to belly fat. Omega-3’s can be found in foods such as fish, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. Also be sure to get the right amount of protein, vitamins, and minerals, and avoid processed foods and those that are high in animal fat.
2. Get enough exercise
A combination of aerobics and stomach-toning exercises coupled with a healthy diet will help tighten abdominal muscles and reduce belly fat. Exercise for at least 20, if not 30, minutes a day for the best results. Many people are surprised to learn that traditional sit-ups really aren’t the best way to reduce belly fat. Exercises such as pelvic lifts and tilts are much better for toning and strengthening weak or flabby abdominal muscles.
3. Strength train
Incorporate strength training into your exercise routine to help reduce belly fat. Regular weight lifting is beneficial because muscles burn calories. The more muscles your body has, the more calories it will be able to burn. Muscles also take up roughly a third of the amount of space that fat does, which helps us to not only feel better, but look better as well. Fitness trainers recommend strength training only every other day to allow the muscles a chance to rest and to avoid injury.
4. Limit stress
A hormone called cortisol is released during periods of stress and then remains at an elevated level. The fat in the abdomen acts differently from fat cells found in other parts of the body mainly due to the large blood supply in this particular area. The abdominal region also has more receptors to stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. All of these factors make it easier for fat to be stored here and settle around the abdominal area.
Try to limit your levels of tension by incorporating stress relieving activities into your daily schedule. At some point during the full 24 hours of each and every day, it’s imperative to make time for yourself in order for good mental and physical health. Read, talk a walk, listen to music, talk to a friend, soak in the bath, or simply nap or meditate for a few minutes each day. Research has shown that reducing stress does have a positive impact on the body’s ability to reduce belly fat.
5. Be patient
This final step to reduce excess belly fat is just as important as the other four. The extra fat that you’ve accumulated around your midsection didn’t appear overnight, and likewise, it won’t disappear that quickly either. By fretting and worrying about plateaus or stalls in weight loss, you may actually cause yourself to gain weight due to the extra stress on the body.
